Senator Elizabeth Warren said that she does not have any plans to run for president in 2020.
“No,” Warren answered when asked on NBC’s “Today” show if she was planning a White House bid.
“I am running in 2018 for senator from Massachusetts.”
Host Matt Lauer appeared to question her response, saying, “A lot of people are already printing up those bumper stickers for 2020 that say, ‘She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.’ ”
Warren didn’t respond to his comment.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell created a rallying cry for Warren’s supporters in Feb.
McConnell rebuked Warren after the Senate voted to prevent her from speaking during a hearing for then-Sen. Jeff Sessions‘s nomination as attorney general.
“Sen. Warren was giving a lengthy speech. She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted,” McConnell said.
“She persisted,” has remained a popular slogan since.
For months, there has been talk of a potential Warren campaign, though Warren has repeatedly said she is not considering running.
The rumors even prompted President Donald Trump to say last month that running against Warren would be a “dream come true.”
